5e conjure animals list10/12/2023 ![]() I’ve left Plesiosaurus Change Rating (CR2, MM p80) dinosaur off the main list below as it’s more specifically used for Season 7 DDHC Tomb of Annihilation. I’ve put together a list of the D&D Adventurers League legal animals your Druid or Ranger can conjure using the following: Player’s Handbook (PHB), Monster Manual (MM). A Ranger and his Conjured Animal spirit in Wolf form What Can a Druid or Ranger Summon? Swarms, while they have the beast type, can’t be conjured by this spell as there are more individual creatures than the Conjure Animals specifies. ![]() Call one beast or up to 8 creatures with the divine spell. Conjure Animals lasts for up to an hour but you’ll need your Player Character (PC) to Concentrate on the spell. Your Druid or Ranger only need verbal and somatic to cast with. It’s a single Action in combat (take the ‘ Cast a Spell’ action) which allows it to be cast with little preparation unlike most Conjuration spells. The spell calls the embodiment of animal spirits who live in The Feywild (Plane of Faerie) to Toril (Prime Material Plane) within 60 feet the caster. They are considered fey and disappear when the spell ends or are brought to 0 hit points (HPs). The caster must be at least a 5th level Druid or a 9th level Ranger. By the NumbersĬonjure Animals obviously is a 3rd level divine Conjuration spell that allows you to conjure creatures with the ‘Beast’ creature type. Sure you call a bunch beasts to your aid but what good is that? Well there’s plenty. Conjure Animals is often under utilized and little understood. The ability to call additional allies to the battle can’t be understated. The divine Conjure Animals spell is available to both the Druid and Ranger classes. Me, I would actually look to the Druid or Ranger for the divine Conjure Animals spell, a powerful 3rd level spell that could outshine even the mightly flash of a fire! Here’s why: Most players look to capable spell-casters like the Wizard, Sorcerer, the Fiend pact Warlock, and Cleric (the Light Domain… really!) in the party for that kind of firepower. I’ve heard Fireball called a ‘tactical nuke’ by players at the table where I play D&D. Quick! Think of a powerful 3rd level spell in 5th Edition Dungeons and Dragons (D&D). A spell that deals out lots of outsized damage and is flexible enough to really get your adventuring party out of a jam. If you thought of the arcane Fireball spell your on the right track. To whit, my fellow DMs: What would you do in this situation? What is your preferred method for handling these spells? I would appreciate some constructive advice on this matter.Deal out lots of damage with the arcane Fireball spell or be selective without blowing up the whole room with the divine Conjure Animals Spell. That will certainly make things easier to manage at the table, although it might also make fights a lot easier, if there's frequently going to be an extra CR 1 or 2 dino with the party. In this case, the player has expressed a (strong) preference for dinosaurs.įortunately for me, the player in question has also said that he'll only ever pick the one or two beast options, so that I needn't worry about cluttering up the battlefield with heaps of little critters. I did that once before, because the last druid I GMed for had a bear theme going, and the player wanted to be able to only ever summon bears (and he only ever wildshaped into a bear as well). Or I could be super generous and just let him pick the creatures himself. Or I could be random too and make it so he has to roll on a chart to see what he gets. ![]() I could be a nice DM instead and always pick creatures of the max CR chosen. Since the spell always says "CR X or lower", I could be a complete jerk and just always have CR 0 toads show up or something. Like the other spells that conjure random creatures, this one lets the player choose the number and max CR of the creatures they want to summon, but apparently it's up to me as the DM to decide what actually shows up within the given parameters. This means the druid can now cast conjure animals. So in my Tomb of Annihilation game, the PCs have just hit 5th level.
